THE MAGICAL JOURNEYS
OF FRIBURG

Roosevelt met Hubert Audriaz in 1993.
Audriaz, legendary personality of the Old City of Friburg,
known as "The Magician of Auge", was trying
to encounter an illustrator master of the fantastic art
that would be able to move over to the traditional
places of the friburger capital.

These two prerequisites were important,
because Audriaz needed someone who could,
even if not a son of the his land,
approche the spirit of the coins of the city,
with their particularities, their stories,
their characters and their architecture.

Teddy Aebi wasn't no more in this world, as
Netton Bosson, men of genius that illustrated with brio
and fantasy the friburger tales and legends.
Was Roosevelt able to releave these artists?

For a first try, Audriaz asked to Roosevelt to do a serigraph
having Friburg as subject. It would be a special print intended to
people who took part to the making of the 1993 Holyday Passport.

"St.Georges over Friburg", black and white serigraph, was
the first work fruit of the collaboration between the two men.
After, Roosevelt has made dozens of illustrations for every
Magical Journeys created by Audriaz each year, from 1994 to 2003.

In 1994, Roosevelt illustrated the book
 "Le Dragon du Gottéron",
by Hubert Audriaz's request. The 15 large drawings
were enlarged by eletronic means and exposed in panels
along the way belonging to the "Gottéron's Dragon Journey".
That year, Roosevelt has made the three-colours serigraph which copies
would be offered to the collaborators of the Holyday Passport.

1995 was the "Spiders' Journey" year.
In addition to various illustrations, Roosevelt
signed the event poster:

In 1996, Audriaz created the "Insects' Journey" and the book
"Les Péchés Capitaux" ("The Seven Sins")
where diverse insects play the part of sinners,
with the poems by Bernard Dimey.

Roosevelt liked particularly the theme of the 1997' Magical Journey:
"The Forest's People".
Of course, it was not about rabbits or does, but
Gnomes, Elfs, Faeries and other fantastic entities.
That time, Roosevelt had to illustrate, using faery characters, the five senses.
And he linked the senses to the four seasons of the year!
See how he did it:

smell

taste

hearing

vision

touch

Again, he made the serigraph which copies wolud be
offered to the collaborators of the Holyday Passport.
The same drawing was used for the event's poster.

1998 was the Ghosts' year. Roosevelt made
many drawings that, as they were enlarged, marked
the main points of "The Ghosts' Journey".

"The Pirates' Journey" happened in 1999 and
was largely illustrated by Roosevelt.
In 2000, a great event took entirely the Georges Python square,
located in the center of Friburg.
To commemorate the arriving of the 21st century,
Audriaz invited the angels to take the town under their protection.
"Angelus" was formed by two exhibitions. The first one was
produced by the children of the town, in the bandstand.
The second exhibition was composed by 12 large panels
where the drawings by Roosevelt, enlarged by eletronic
means, could be seen, arranged over the walls
that surround a part of the square.
