THE ZODIAC
This set of 12 drawings, made in Indian ink,
dates from 1995 and it was showed for the first time
at the
group exhibition "Le Zodiaque", that took place at the
Castle of Gruyères.
The start point of this work was the antique conception
of the link between the macrocosme and the microcosme.
In accordance with this cosmogony, each sign of the Zodiac,
revealed by a constellation, has a correspondence
with a part of the human body.
And, following the medieval conceptions, the signs of
the Zodiac
were divided in accordance with their polarities (male
or female) and their
correspondence with one of the four elements (fire, earth,
air and water).
The author'saim was to combine in one work
all these traditional ideas, using as main line a human
body.
This body - a woman's body, as to honour the
Beauty and its godness Venus - is formed by the
construction lines os the drawings of each sign.
To make this woman body visible, the signs must
be placed as the following diagram:
Roosevelt published on that occasion a card deck
with the twelve Zodiac signs, quickly sold out.
